چکیده

Many diverse and important barriers, both real and perceived, inhibit automakers’ adoption of advanced composite materials. A strategy to produce an all-advanced-composite body-in-white (BIW) commercially could be the best method to overcome these barriers. This paper summarizes the ultralight, hybrid-electric “hypercar” concept, emphasizing why massoptimization is crucial to its design; summarizes potentially applicable high-volume advanced composites technologies; recounts two recent studies of the main barriers to structural composites use in the BIW; explains why a whole-system application—not the conventionally prescribed component-based incrementalism—is probably the best way to conquer these barriers and create new opportunities; and explores in greater detail a key barrier of advanced composites, their manufacturing cost, to show how a whole-system application can circumvent it.

Design of an anti-lock regenerative braking system for a series hybrid electric vehicle

In this paper, an adaptive rule based controller for an anti-lock regenerative braking system (ARBS) of a series hybrid electric bus (SHEB) has been proposed. The proposed controller integrates the regenerative braking and wheel anti-lock functions by controlling the electric motor of the hybrid vehicle, without using any conventional mechanical anti-lock braking system. The performance of the ...

Antilock Regenerative Braking System Design for a Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Hybrid electric vehicles employ a hydraulic braking system and a regenerative braking system together to provide enhanced braking performance and energy regeneration. In this paper an integrated braking system is proposed for an electric hybrid vehicle that include a hydraulic braking system and a regenerative braking system which is functionally connected to an electric traction motor. In the ...

There is concern that a trend toward smaller, lighter, fuel-efficient vehicles could adversely affect overall fleet safety. Since 2006, the U.S. Congress has directed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to “examine the possible safety benefits of lightweight plastic and composite intensive vehicles (PCIVs)” with Federal and industry stakeholders. This paper identifies near-term r...
